About Me

Melanated & Misunderstood is an extension of my passion for the Black community and my desire to eliminate stigma around mental health & therapy. Raised in Hampton, VA, I went on to earn my Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology & Sociology from Virginia Commonwealth University. A year later, I moved to Atlanta, GA where I completed my Master’s of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Georgia State University.

My journey since graduation has been one of growth and self-discovery. As a now fully licensed professional counselor [at Push Thru Therapy] & trained birth doula, I’ve been able to fulfill my purpose as a healer in numerous ways. As someone who recognizes the importance in holistic wellness, my work as a doula has given me the opportunity to help lower the maternal mortality rate (that disproportionately affects Black bodies), by providing not only physical, mental & emotional support. Now, I find myself on a path with the intention of planning and/or hosting in-person wellness events; such as workshops and retreats, as a way to build community and improve mental wellness, through collective healing.
